San Francisco Bay Yacht Delivery
San Francisco Bay sits halfway up the coast, so almost every West Coast delivery passes its door. We move power and sail yachts in and out of Sausalito, Alameda and the wider Bay Area — south to San Diego and Mexico, north to the Pacific Northwest.
The Bay Area is a major yachting center and a natural waypoint on the California coast. We deliver boats to and from San Francisco, Sausalito, Alameda and Redwood City, whether the Bay is the start, the finish, or a stop on a longer passage north or south.
The challenge of a San Francisco delivery is the coast on either side of the Gate. The approaches cross a shallow bar that stands up in a swell, summer brings persistent fog and strong afternoon wind through the Gate, and the open coast to the north and south has long stretches between all-weather harbors. We plan the passage around the conditions and the boat.
What this route demands
Why owners hire a licensed captain for it
The Golden Gate & the bar
The approaches to the Bay cross a shallow bar that stands up steeply on an ebb against a swell. We time the entrance and exit for the tide and the sea state.
Summer fog and the afternoon wind
The Bay and the Gate are known for thick summer fog and strong afternoon westerlies. We plan the coastal legs and the Gate transit around them.
Long open-coast legs
North toward the Pacific Northwest and south toward Southern California, safe harbors are spread out. The passage is planned around weather windows, with the boat kept self-sufficient.
A hub in both directions
Because the Bay is mid-coast, deliveries here are often one leg of a longer run. We handle the whole delivery end to end, not just the Bay Area piece.

Questions about this route
Do you deliver yachts to and from San Francisco Bay?
Yes — we regularly deliver power and sail yachts in and out of San Francisco, Sausalito, Alameda and the wider Bay Area, both as a destination and as one leg of a longer coastal delivery.
How long does a delivery between San Francisco and San Diego take?
Usually about 4–7 days depending on the vessel's speed and the weather. It's an open-coast passage of roughly 450 nautical miles with long stretches between safe harbors, so we plan it around weather windows.
Can you handle the conditions at the Golden Gate?
Yes. We plan the Gate transit and the bar crossing around the tide and sea state, and the coastal legs around the fog and afternoon wind the Bay is known for.
